Saudi Arabia recorded the highest number of daily cases of Covid-19, according to data from the Ministry of Health, breaking the 5,000 mark on Wednesday.
Covid-19 cases in Saudi Arabia, which has the largest population in the Gulf region, of about 35 million people, have increased dramatically since the beginning of the year as the Omicron variant spreads.
Saudi Arabia's Health Ministry on Wednesday reported 5,362 new cases of Covid-19, up on top of the previous daily infection peak in June 2020 of 4,919.
The use of masks in public places in Saudi Arabia has been an obligation since the beginning of the year.
Other Gulf states have also seen a surge in Covid-19 infections in the past month, with Kuwait and Qatar also breaking previous daily case records.
